    Eating problems at age 6 years in a whole population sample of extremely preterm children

    Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of eating problems and their association with neurological and behavioural disabilities and growth among children born extremely preterm (EPC) at age 6 years. Method: A standard questionnaire about eating was completed by parents of 223 children (125 males [56.1%], 98 females [43.9%]) aged 6 years who were born at 25 weeks' gestation or earlier (mean 24.5wks, SD 0.7wks; mean birthweight 749.1g, SD 116.8g), and parents of 148 classmates born at term (66 males [44.6%], 82 females [55.4%]). All children underwent neurological, cognitive, and anthropometric assessment, and parents and teachers completed a behaviour scale. Results: Eating problems were more common among the EPC than the comparison group (odds ratio [OR] 3.6, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.1–6.3), including oral motor (OR 5.2, 95% CI 2.8–9.9), hypersensitivity (OR 3.0, 95% CI 1.6–5.6), and behavioural (OR 3.8, 95% CI 1.9–7.6) problems. Group differences were reduced after adjustment for cognitive impairment, neuromotor disability, and other behaviour problems. EPC with eating problems were shorter, lighter, and had lower mid-arm circumference and lower body mass index (BMI) even after adjusting for disabilities, gestational age, birthweight, and feeding problems at 30 months. Interpretation: Eating problems are still frequent in EPC at school age. They are only partly related to other disabilities but make an additional contribution to continued growth failure and may require early recognition and intervention

    Bakgrund och problem: De nya byrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna innebĂ€r att den som Ă€r verksam i samma företag som den som yrkesmĂ€ssigt bitrĂ€der ett icke-finansiellt aktiebolag vid bokföringen, inte skall kunna vara revisor i bolaget. Vidare anses att ett uppdrag dĂ€r samma revisionsbyrĂ„ deltar i upprĂ€ttandet av den bokföring som sedan skall granskas av revisorn ger upphov till hot mot oberoendet, Ă€ven kallat kombiuppdrag. ByrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna trĂ€der i kraft 2007-01-01 och det rĂ„der ovisshet om vilka konsekvenser de kommer att medföra för revisionsbyrĂ„erna. InnebĂ€r det verksamhetsstrukturella anpassningar hos revisionsbyrĂ„erna? Kommer de nya byrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna innebĂ€ra fördelar och/eller nackdelar för revisionsbyrĂ„erna? Syfte: Syftet med uppsatsen Ă€r att utreda pĂ„ vilka sĂ€tt de nya byrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna pĂ„verkar revisionsbyrĂ„erna. Vi vill redogöra för hur revisionsbyrĂ„erna planerar att anpassa verksamhetsstrukturen till de nya bestĂ€mmelserna och identifiera eventuella skillnader dem emellan. Vidare vill vi analysera vad anpassningarna betyder för revisionsbyrĂ„erna samt urskilja för- och nackdelar. Slutligen vill vi kunna ge rekommendationer för vad vi anser Ă€r bra anpassningar till byrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna. AvgrĂ€nsningar: DĂ„ de nya byrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna endast Ă€r aktuella i Sverige kommer studien avgrĂ€nsas till revisionsbyrĂ„er i Sverige. Av tids och kostnadsskĂ€l Ă€r studien avgrĂ€nsad till revisionsbyrĂ„er i GöteborgsomrĂ„det. Vidare för att kunna dra slutsatser har vi valt att fokusera pĂ„ större byrĂ„er dĂ„ de har flest klienter som drabbas av de nya bestĂ€mmelserna. Metod: Studien har ett abduktivt vetenskapligt förhĂ„llningssĂ€tt och en kvalitativ metodansats har tillĂ€mpats. Personliga intervjuer med tre revisionsbyrĂ„er har genomförts; Ernst & Young, Öhrlings PricewaterhouseCoopers samt Lindebergs Grant Thornton. Respondenterna vid revisionsbyrĂ„erna har varit insatta i byrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna och byrĂ„ns verksamhetsstruktur. Resultat & Slutsatser: Effekterna av de nya byrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna var mindre Ă€n vad vi förvĂ€ntade för revisionsbyrĂ„erna eftersom kombiuppdrag inte utförs i stor mĂ„n för de klienter som omfattas av byrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna. Vidare identifierades utbildning av klient, för att lĂ„ta klienten utföra de delar av kombiuppdraget som revisionsbyrĂ„er inte lĂ€ngre fĂ„r utföra, som den mest lĂ€mpliga Ă„tgĂ€rden för anpassning till byrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna. Förslag till fortsatt forskning: En studie efter ikrafttrĂ€dandet av byrĂ„jĂ€vsbestĂ€mmelserna Ă€r av intresse dĂ„ denna studie Ă€r genomförd innan ikrafttrĂ€dandet. Vidare skulle en liknande studie av smĂ„ revisionsbyrĂ„ers verksamhetsstruktur vara intressant för jĂ€mförelse revisionsbyrĂ„er emellan.     Resolving environmental effects of wind energy

    Concerns for potential wildlife impacts resulting from land-based and offshore wind energy have created challenges for wind project development. Research is not always adequately supported, results are neither always readily accessible nor are they satisfactorily disseminated, and so decisions are often made based on the best available information, which may be missing key findings. The potential for high impacts to avian and bat species and marine mammals have been used by wind project opponents to stop, downsize, or severely delay project development. The global nature of the wind industry—combined with the understanding that many affected species cross-national boundaries, and in many cases migrate between continents—also points to the need to collaborate on an international level. The International Energy Agency (IEA) Wind Technology Collaborative Programs facilitates coordination on key research issues. IEA Wind Task 34— WREN: Working Together to Resolve Environmental Effects of Wind Energy–is a collaborative forum to share lessons gained from field research and modeling, including management methods, wildlife monitoring methods, best practices, study results, and successful approaches to mitigating impacts and addressing the cumulative effects of wind energy on wildlife. WREN develops products such as white papers, fact sheets, and short science summaries, and is involved in a number of activities including hosting a webinar series and outreach and information dissemination through participation in meetings, workshops, and conferences to increase and expand the knowledge base pertaining to wildlife challenges at wind energy facilities.
